That has already proven as a false statement. The previous poster pointed out that dialects are also spoken that differ somewhat from regular somali and also that Arabic is spoken there.

Spanish was NEVER the native language of the US. It is adopted like any other european language spoken in the US. The native languages spoken in America in pre-Columbus days are too numerous to even mention. And in reference to the comments made about US being a 'mongrel bastard' the same can be said of Canada and a few other nations.

Somali language most definitely has some type of liguistic similarities with some other group or groups of languages that most of you don't even know yourselves.

The Incas spoke Quechua. The Aztecs spoke Nahuatl.

Take it from someone who tried very hard to understand AfKonfur with only a background in AfWoquoyi, the northern and southern dialects might as well be separate languages. The vocabularies are very different.

they may not be similar per se, words and phrases may be similar

like Arabic, we have words that are the exact same thing

i think someone posted a Hausa music vid and I coulda sworn she said something in Somali in the Hausa language walahi

its just bits and pieces, its not broad or anything

Afro-asaitic= Cushitic Semitic, Chadic, Omotic, Ancient Egytian, Berber etc


Cushitic languages are Oromo Anfar, and Rendiile, Boni Somali Sometimes Beja etc
Chadic= hausa and others in west africa
Semitic= Amharic, Arabic, Tigrinya, Hebrew, Aramaic etc
Ancient Egytian well it equal Ancient Egyptian......
Berber= all of the Tamzighen dialects
etc etc


The only languages outside of africa are Semtic ones like hebrew and arabic............ Otherwise yeah

The problem is many of you can not distinguish between OFFICAL LANGUAGE and SPOKEN LANGUAGES.

The official language of Somalia is Af-Somaali. For example, Af-Maay is a fabricated dialect, for example when people butcher the English language, by speaking in various idioms. I've given multiple instances between people who are from NEW YORK, and MISSISSIPPI. It is the same country, and they both speak the English language but both have phrases unknown to the other. Does it mean that it is two SEPARATE languages?, of course not.

The official language of Somalia, is Af-Somaali, why others make their only dialects, it does not take light from the only true language of Somalia.

Furthermore, people who are Somali can speak other languages it is called EDUCATION and expanding horizons. If any of you think dialects and languages are the same thing, I want to know where you went to school at, because you need a REFUND.

Not that at all. She asked you to make a valid distinction. Is Af maay maay a distinct, seperate language from Af Somali, as Russian is to Italian, or is it merely a seperate dialect ? Prime example, the Nefoundlanders of Eastern Canada speak a distinct, seperate dialect of English. VERRRY similar to the "Pikey" language spoken by Brad Pitt's character in "Snatch". Indecipherable gibberish, but English nonetheless.
