Iraq had 20 million people in 1990 VS Kuwait with only 1 million

They came into Kuwait with 300000 troops and 800 tanks, we had only 12000 troops

Yes they defeated us in the first round and captured our nation, what we did was to leave our women and children in Saudi Arabia, come back and liberate our land, we only got air help but we liberated Kuwait in less than 5 hours.

Today the motherland is free

I find Russian equipment complicated & maintenance heavy. They said majority of Indian SU-30MKI & Russian Tanks such as T-72 & T-90s are at any given time not active. That's quite damning!
complicated are you kidding me, The ruskis are famous for the opposite.
they make things simple and over engineer it so that any idiot can operate it without breaking it.
explains how south sudanese illeterates can recieve T-72's and use them immedietly like you would a truck.
Try doing that with an early model M-60 or a Chieften?

now about maintenance yes thats correct, the ruskis have not yet caught up in precision engineering and they haven't developed an Obsessive compulsive disorder about maintenance like NATO does.

i would love to talk about the Su-30mki some more but i wanted to ask you about the jf-17 what do you think about it.
and have you heard about the upgrade program for it? looks like in a few years it will be 80-90% as effective as a J-10 when it receives a new chinese engine
in the 22,000lb range WS-13 Taishan and stealth features to reduce cross section.

i am surprised at how the chinese caught up with the rest of the world in engine technology.
This is actually harder to do than avionics and missiles .

The JF-17 has shaped out to be a quite decent and appropriate fighter jet for the Pakistani Air force that will be its workhorse. Personally, I wanted it to be armed with Western Avionics, Radar and armaments. There was a strong possibility that the French were going to be the lead provider in this aspect but unfortunately, the French gave up on the Pakistanis in order to appeal to the Indians and win the MRCA Deal which was worth Billions of Dollars. Right now, the package it comes with is quite good, you have South African/Chinese/Brazilian Missiles, it will be able to fire the deadly Pakistani Ra'ad Air Launched Cruise Missile and comes with Chinese radar and avionics. It is quite good at what it does and provided they are able to get rid of the noisy and smoky Rd-93 engine and get a Chinese alternative, they will be in a better position. The Chinese are still many years behind the West and the Russians in engine design technology and thats the remaining frontier they need to conquer. The WS-13 has been in development for many years and still needs to prove itself, right now no-one is in a hurry and Russian alternatives exist for both the Chinese and Pakistanis. The nonavailability of an appropriate and powerful engine is what is forcing the J-XX Stealth Chinese jet to fly with a Russian engine.

Hopefully they rectify this soon.

The Pakistanis can be justifiably proud for producing such a powerful and sexy fighter jet!

That's not hard to get. Brain-dead arabs make it seem harder than it is. But Nukes are useful only as a minor deterrant anyway - they are absolutely impractical in everything else. I wasn't even talking about nukes, but military hardware like tanks, mortars, missiles, aircraft (planes, jets, choppers) etc.

I don't think it would be unlikely that, if somalia had the right government, we could produce and engineer our own weapons in 20-30 years. It's easy to be pessimistic, but progress only comes when you think of how to do things not if you can do them at all.

Abdi,

Pakistan is a different league. It had world-class scientists and engineers a population of 180 Million; hence it can absorb such technologies and it makes no sense for Somalia. We are a population of 10 million give or take and uneducated for the most part. We can not indulge in such luxuries. Even Pakistan is careful with what weapon systems it invests in. They invest in programs that can help in other fields as well. When they bought the Transfer of Technology deal with the French Agosta 90-B Submarines, it helped in their missile and avionics industry and they still continue to reap the benefits.

Also, Pakistani scientists have won the Nobel Prize in Nuclear Technology and some of them even were part in the Manhattan Project and behind the formation of the British Nuclear Bomb. They are quite advanced in Nuclear Technology and actually supplied the Chinese with the advanced Uranium Enrichment Technology
