 Why would I tell you my personal details. I'm from a very well known family (fathers side) in cadado forget my abtiris or even granfathers name if I tell you my fathers or uncles name you will know my family and me immediately. Even people who are not HabarGidiir know my family, not taking that chance

Don't mess with me waryaa, do you know my family are very close with the governor of Ximan iyo Xeeb and contribute to Cadados development a lot? I can make sure you never access Cadado again in your life

Shirib & TeAmo, what's the difference if say a non-somali asked you where you're from or what city you're originally from

Hyper, yes southern somalis see it like they are being asked for private details like bank number  what is the big deal to me it's like asking "magacaa?" waa run carabtuba way is waydiiyaan, qabiil is just your identity it's not a secret.

I think the biggest qabilists are those who try to suppress it.

A non Somali never asks me what city I'm originally from, the most they ask is what ethnicity I am or what country I originate from and Somali or Somalia as an answer is sufficient for them.

But with Somalis they ask you what tribe you are from I mean how does knowing my tribe benefit them in any way shape or form? What does it change? Does it mean you will have a better impression of me, that you would like me more if I'm from so and so tribe? And usually this is the case, which is why I don't like to mention my tribe because I like to be judged as my own person and not as a person from so and so tribe.

Why should this be an issue unless you are insecure about your clan (no offense). It's not like they are asking for your credit card number :?

I'm not insecure about my clan, I just think it inappropriate and dark aged to ask someone for their clan. Because first of all we are NOT in Somalia where tribe actually means something and 2ndly knowing my tribe isn't going to make gold fall down from the sky. I have no problem telling someone my tribe if they asked me but I would also think they are qabilist and lack intelligence for doing so.

It's just extremely uncommon around these parts. Like I said, I guess it's different in the UK.

I've never had a peer ask me what clan I belong to. Ever.

I would tell them if they ever asked, but it's not something that comes up in a conversation. I don't think it's a taboo, it's more due to indifference.
