Degrees aren't useless. People are useless
I have seen an acquaintence science major today working at the Beer Store but i know a history major who works at Foreign Affairs and is stationed at Bogota wining and dining with international diplomats. The dude is 23.
I had that mentality too at first year in university but the world wasnt as straight forward as I thought it was
Its all about your connections, how established you are, etc. Wallahi 1st n 2nd year students always have the biggest egos. I remember one guy in my program who always used to rub it in to ppl that his program was better than what they do. He didn't make it and works in a warehouse while the same guy he was ridiculing drives in a Lexus and owns a business
You will humble yourself soon. Doors will not open for you just because you got this or that. Its much more complicated than that. You'll see how life really is. You might start at 40K while that arts student starts at 60K at some firm.

Re: Why do many Somalis get meaningless degrees?
I always tell my fellow Somalis pick something that makes you happy, doesn't matter if its women studies, Monkey studies, Its not always about the money, its not like we haven't witnessed people with masters and phds from various majors on welfare. YOLO.
One thing I've noticed is that Somalis don't take advantage of high school internships. I remember doing high school plays, and during my last yr of high school I wanted to pursue something in theater production, whether film production, director etc... Until I did an intern, turns out it wasn't how I pictured it, than reality set in and I never thought of it again. It was a crash and burn course but it was a lesson "I" learned from. Life is trial and error, nor does a degree promise you anything

Degree is just a paper. What counts is how flashy your resume is and how can you sell yourself to the interviewer. Somalis actually got better chance that white because most big companies go that hated "affirmative action" to fill

Don't exaggerate breh. History majors and those who major in the arts find it the hardest to get a job.AbdiJohnson wrote:Degrees aren't useless. People are useless

Don't exaggerate things breh. History majors and those who major in the arts have the lowest chances of getting jobs. Certain fields are in demand and in others you'll be lucky if you find anything.
