Ethiopia and Somalia have started exchanging more than 3,700 prisoners of war, some held since the two Horn of Africa neighbors began fighting over a patch of desert 11 years ago.

The scheduled 10-day operation follows an accord signed by Ethiopia and Somalia in April and involves some prisoners held since hostilities began in 1977, said the International Committee of the Red Cross.On its first flight Tuesday, a Red Cross-chartered plane brought 176 Ethiopians and a Cuban from Somalia's capital Mogadishu to Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, and returned to Mogadishu with 111 Somalians, a Red Cross statement said.

The Geneva-based group is supervising the exchange.

The exchange left 3,421 Ethiopians in Somalia and 118 Somalis in Ethiopian hands.

I think Somalis could only capture one Cuban soldiers and Cubans captured more than 200 somalis.

Cubans destroyed Somali Army and WSLF,Cubans recaptured all Ogaden region and Ethiopian troops and SSDF captured two towns in Somalia in 1982( Galdogob and Balamable),this a shame for Somalia, a foreign country(Ethiopia was occupying part of Somalia).Dont forget Siad Barre renounced Ogaden claims in 1988.

Siad Barre was the man responsible for many atrocities in Somalia, he killed a lot of innocent people like: Issaqs.He destroyed many somali cities and towns and transformed somalia in a place of chaos, destruction and death.Until now Somalis have not recovered from his tyranny.His main failure was however Ogaden debacle before Cuban and Soviet Union,this defeat destroyed the sense of national unity in Somali state.Somalia would never be the same after 1977 debacle.
