Somaliland was its own country that joined with Somalia to form the Somali Republic. Like a bad marriage, the relationship soured and the union has been dissolved. You can use earth engine the same way as google maps, you can search cities and it will show you a gif of how fast they grew.

You are right Bosaso existed as bender qasim. but its also true that the modern day Bosaso expanded the last 20 years. Before 1990 bosado was very small fishing town. Bosaso has for more than a century existed(in the past as Bender Kasim).
Over the passed decades it has grown, but Hargeisa takes the cake.
