how is it I've been here in N. America for close 10 years, came here not speaking a word of english and yet I can write the language better than somalis for that matter native kids who've been here for all their lifes? Notwithstanding the fact I got a fast processor firmly lodged between my ears, what's the cause for the abysmal english skills? I can only think of poor schooling but then I too attended those schools.

I would never hold bad grammar or spelling against anyone. But the situation I was alluding is much worse than poor punctuation, grammar or spelling. Some kids around these forums who were born and raised in the West (english speaking nations) are in all honesty illiterate in English.
