thanks for the update walal, i went to xamar and Galkacyo 2 years ago. IN Galkcyo they literally wear the niqab and the whole Afghan like cloth, i must say i was shocked and dissappointed. I resorted to wearing the traditional Grabarsar on the head( with enough hair in the front i was still comfortable), and shirt and with a long skirt. But still with a male escort where ever i went, i managed to get enough dirty looks and bad mouthing from rather jealous women/girls i suppose. But i figured most people were nice because they assumed i was a foreigner. But in xamar in some neighbourhoods, it is not that bad. but with social structure and economic freedom, people will change and live their life more comfortable and bring with them their ways of dressing and living. I see some hope for our country..
ps. i never knew that Hargesia had a red light district

but no surprise, every booming society will have some sort redlight district...its just realities of life!!

Whats wrong with sociology or psychology or any related field?? Not everybody is not made to become an engineer or a doctor you know.
I btw belong to general workers section...so Iam not included in that section/category...as I said earlier I am Mr Garba-Weyne aka Xamaali at Furdada Xamar or Kismayo but never in Berbera.

Lol @faking street! It does exist and it was always called faking istraydh in that no nonsense Somali way. But actually Hargeisa was more famous for the exaggerated beautiful imagination of its other streets: Daruraha(The Clouds); Biyo Dhacay (Water falls); Gol Janno(Paradise Pond); Gacan Libax(Lion's Paw) and the inimitable Nasa Hablod(Maiden's Breasts)
Infuriatingly the new Islamist movement, and I am afraid the Wahabbi wannabe little bugger JB is right here - they are actively wiping out these old names and replacing them with bastardised Arab names like `towfiq' and Xamdah. Hargeisa's was once by far the biggest centre of the Somali-speaking races creativity; the hub of our urban art. Who is Who of Somali art came from there: Suggulle, Magool, Gududo Carwo, Sangub, Mumin(both), Gujis, Baxsan - you name it they came from that hub of the Somali culture
But contrast Mogadishu was our only world class metropolis; and a breathtakingly beautiful one at that.
Both are now destroyed. The creative genius of Hargeisa has the life snufffed out of it by Islamism. What do they have against Faking Istraydh anyway?
The physical, architectural and urban beauty of Mogadishu has been destroyed by Ceydid and now by Islamic courts. Death to the Destroyers of Somali beauty. Long live Faking istraydh!

Xamaali? Good. And what is wrong with Berbera?
It does remind me of Sayyid's gabay (" ...They would not have carried luggage for the [lowly]Indians of berbera...and idolised anyone who saved cents")
That racist xenophobia always reminded me of what we used to chant as children " Hindi baba bariiskaagii ma bislaanine badda joogso ka barooro ba'ayeey dheh"( Oh weakling Indian your rice ain't ready yet...stand beside the beach... and cry your eyes out")

Galol
Because the place is the hottest city in somalia (heat stroke and heat exhaustion are common among the xamaalis in Berbera's port)...I also would've difficulty being called The WallaWeyn Xamaali in af qaldaan.

PS How come you like to ask Qs but dont like to answer them?? Anyhoo, did you remember what you studied with Abraham Lincoln ???

Agronomy and Farm Machinery. Yes you heard right. But keep quiet.
In fact I was told by my first Lecturer that "this trade you are learning ...is second to God"
Ironic, isn't it? I thought God who?
