What a great way to end his legacy, ZiZou will be remembered for that headbutt, However he will also go down on history has one of the best footballer France has ever had.
I don't know what exactly Materazzi said to offend Zidane but it had to be something very offensive in order for zidane to act the way he did.

Clearly the better team won, so all u nagging La Blue fans quite crying foul. Italia scored the ONLY legit goal while the French were gifted a goal by the ref (malouda DOVE!).
About Zidane, must say I'm a bit surprisd some are suggesting a 'get 'em' plan sprung for him by the Italians. From the replays, there was nothing to warrant his reaction. Maybe some trash talk from the Italian defender which is part and parcel of professional sports and players take 'em on the chin not charge head first like mad bull. Unquestionably Zidane had momentary lapse of judgement... sad way to end successful career.

I was switching from channel to channel to see a press conference by Zinedine Zidane but I couldnt find naything.
We'll find out tomorrow what it was that Materazzi really said that provoked the King.
I wouldnt be surprised if Materazzi made remarks about his Algerian roots.

Whatever he said doesn't matter. Zizou is one of the greatest players too ever play. he would be on my starting 11 of all time. None of these italians would be. Zizou carried his team in 1998. He did the same in euro 2000 and screwed up in 2002 and in 2004 showed flashes of brilliance. But in 06 he was the single reason france got this far and will be remember as the maestro the talisman as ZIZOU

The objective of the game is to win. If Zizou had been insulted at, say, the 25 minute mark, and pulled that antic, he would have left his team shorthanded for a long time.
As it was, he was not available for the penalty kick phase, one of his strong elements. That might have meant the difference, though we will never know for sure.
Bottom line is, it was dumb. The football pitch in Germany is not a dusty street in Mogadischu. Words mean nothing on the pitch and are best ignored.
