71 suspects including two month old baby in government jail

Mogadishu 09, May.07 ( Sh.M.Network) Residents in Mogadishu called on the Somali transitional government to release 71persons including women and 2 month old baby. These people were seized on Monday after a police pickup truck was blasted by a roadside bomb that seriously wounded at least 7 police officers onboard the truck.

Mohamoud Ali, a Somali traditional elder who lives in Aden Adde neighborhood, said the government should release those people specially the women and the small child. “All those people were seized as suspects by government soldiers after the explosion,” he said.

The Somali government has not yet commented on the suspects’ issues.

Earlier the newly appointed Mogadishu mayor, Mohammed Dheere, said the Somali soldiers have been given the orders to arrest residents whose areas they live in are used as bases to launch attacks against government soldiers or bureaucrats.

One shopper was killed in Mogadishu’s Bakara market Wednesday after a hand grenade thrown at government soldiers demolishing kiosks at illegal places in the market exploded near the victim. It was not known who carried out the bomb attack.

Four bomb explosions against government positions took place in volatile city, Mogadishu, since the interim backed by Ethiopian troops defeated remnants of the Islamic Courts fighters last month.
