The Executive Chairman of the Somali Union of Islamic Courts Shaykh Sharif Shaykh Ahmad said US fighter jets took part in the recent Somalia fighting. He has also denied comments of US Assistant Secretary for African Affairs

The Islamic Courts Executive Chairman Shaykh Sharif Shaykh Ahmad, who is now in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea said the comments of Jendayi Frazer of saying that he is not a moderate man and that he has given up his previous stance as moderate Muslim

The Chairman said the USA has not saved him, and accused the US for supporting the Ethiopian troops during the fighting in Mogadishu between the Islamic Courts on one side and the other side of the Ethiopian and Somali government troops.

Shaykh Sharif arrived in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, when fighting was going on in southern Somalia. While in Nairobi he met with the Us ambassador to Kenya.

The chairman was asked if the US has saved him when he was in the forest of southern Somalia [after the defeat of the Islamic Courts], said that report does not exist and that he had not got any help from the US.

The US Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Jendayi Frazer said in an interview with VOA Somali section that the US helped Shaykh Sharif during the fighting , adding that he has now give up his moderate stance.
