I thought I dedicated enough threads for this marxum, but everyday that I talk to those who were politically mature during his tenure, I stumble across a new chapter of his intriguing life. My new discovery through the said sources reveal the heroic stand he took towards evicting a Superpower from the sacred soil of Somalia.

After suffering the defeat of the Ogaden war (1977) in the hands of Russia and Cuba, he took a bold stand in giving Russia an ultimatum of leaving Somalia within seven days!!! and Cuba 24 hours!!!!

Could the A/hi Yusufs and Geeddis of today have such balls and daring courage?

Siyaad (AUN) did evict the Soviets and Cubans. They then stopped supporting Somalia and went to Ethiopia and gave it full support and help break the back of Somalia in the Ogaden.

Was it smart ? No.

Was it also smart to have dropped being proAmerican in 1969 ? Only to beg them for help in 1977 with the war against Ethiopia, Cuba and the USSR ? No.

Siyaad was NOT a patriot or nationalist because he contributed immensely to Somalia's current state. He became the GodFather and estabilished the notion of seizing power by force, killing your opponents, squashing elections.

To sum it up, Siyaad was not a good leader.

But when u compare him to Afbiijo, he looks much better.

I guess Siyaad did all of these great things:

1. Seized power by force and ended the Somali democracy.
2. Started Somalia's civil war
3. Lead Somalia into disasterous war with Ethiopia
4. Estabilished the idea that the President is to be a dictator and his qabiil will live off the government.
5. Economically sabotaged Somalia by nationalizing and tightening state control over the economy.

2. He Didnt not start the Civilwar USC did
3. He lost the War with glory and in Hope of A United Somalia

Did u forget about the SSDF ? Afbiijo & his SSDF fought Siyaad in 1981 and that was when Siyaad unleashed the worst karbaash on the Majeerten. Leelkase served a great part in crushing the Majeerten. Ask around.

Without a dictatorship and Siyaad, there would be no jabhad. Everyone would have competed for power using the ballot box.

The SSDF akaDafoorqiiq targeted the miltary not civilians like the savage USC!! Leelkase didnt not tak part in genocides done by the goverment to the Majerteen clan? what ever you may see around these forums dont mean a shidh Because Leelkase and Majerteens are will iyo Abtigis we have a Love and Hate relationship.

Since each and everyone of us is opinionated about Siad Barre's accomplishments and short comings, let's not at least twist facts that are naked and is visible to my blind great granma.

Somalia's civil war was started by USC and they are the ones who implemented the anarchaic system that demolished what was known as Somalia. When Siad Barre left Somalia, the country was still intact albeit skirmishes that resulted multitude deaths. As for the other rebels you mentioned, they were targeting for regime change and not for ethnic cleansing like the USC mentality.

Siad Barre committed mistakes, it's human nature and we are all fallible, but his good supercedes his bad and no one can deny it.

What did USC accomplished after Siad Barre left? And please don't tell me that is his legacy
