Ugaas Hassan Samburu, The Fourth Takes On New Wife

El-Baraaf, Samburu - His Royal Highness Ugaas Hassan Samburu took on his 9th wife in a festive occasion in El Baraaf, Capital of the Samburu Ugaasate. The 45 year old ruler of the Hassan Samburu married his lastest wife, 20 year-old, Zeinab Yusuf Laxdiile, a member of the Hassan Geeldiishe Mariixman tribe of neighboring Somalia. In a decree from the Royal Court, all Samburu were invited to attend the massive celebrations not seen in Samburu since the 1958 referendum on the future of the Northern Frontier District of which the Samburu nation voted for unity with Somalia.

"This marriage reknews the ties between the Samburu and our Mariixman brothers of Gedo. For far to long, conflict has plagued our two peoples yet we forget the many common ties that bound us together. It is my sincere hope that we can live in peace as we are all members of the Great Galla Nation: Boran, Barentu, Rendiile, Sidaamo, all children of the Great Waaq !" remarked Ugaas Hassan Samburu.

Foreign dignitaries from neighoring regions were in full force to attend the ceremony. President Mwai Kibaki later spoke at length regarding future development in the desolate Northeastern Province. Security and the dangers of cattle rustling, endemic to this area, were discussed in great detail. Awasa Beniyaam, Governor of Ethiopia's Moyale district also discussed the ongoing developments in the Souther Nilotic Peoples Region. He hoped that closer ties could be formed among all parties in the region to boost development. Barre Hiiraale, Governor of the Jubbaland Administration, also congratulated Ugaas Hassan Samburu the Fourth on his marriage and spoke of the great brotherly relations between all the children of Waaq. He lauded the efforts of the Ugaas's father Hassan Samburu the Third in helping end the bitter Mariixman civil war of the 1990s.
