Blasts and gunfire rock the capital

Post by Hiiraan boy »

(SomaliNet) The sound of heavy explosions and gunfire could be separately heard in the Somalia capital Mogadishu tonight which frightened the public.

In a telephone contact which Somalinet made with local residents in Hodan district indicates that armed local militants have clashed with the government soldiers enforcing the curfew around 10:10pm local time.

It is hard to find out the casualty of the latest violence because of the curfew on the city.

It could not be verified who was fighting who but locals said the gunfire and the explosions appeared to be skirmishes between government soldiers and local insurgents.

Elsewhere in Mogadishu, gun battle raged near the soccer Stadium Mogadishu compound housing Ethiopian forces.

Since the curfew was imposed a week ago, Mogadishu sees waves of violence including ambush attacks and bombings on the government positions.

The new round of the violence prompted many civilians to be out of the capital fleeing the crisis and being target for the indiscriminate arrests by the allied forces of Somalia and Ethiopia.
