Honor killing is also practiced by Americans, including white Anglo-Saxons. America is probably the single most country where the practice of honor killing is the highest. Of course, the American media doesn't report it, and gives it other names (domestic abuse, etc).

For some reason I do not yet quite comprehend, we do seem to have more than our share of murder-suicides. I wonder if it is our larger population and better reporting than in some other areas of the world?

In any case, your example is one of interpersonal abuse and suicide that raises no issues of family honor. The West doesn't have the concept and does not cover this kind of thing up.

What I have read indicates to me that If grandma had been in Jordan or Pakistan she would never so much as have been questioned. It would officially have been an "accident" and that would have been that.

I await word of any scriptural reference that would justify the practice.
