Is Being Single Social Experiment Gone Wrong????

ok, Ive just had dinner with some really great people who have provoked such a surge of frustration in me that I instantly thought the general clan would be a great group of people to discuss it with maximum diversity and opinion as I've realised that this has cropped up more times in my life then I care to count and Im desperate to hear other peoples opinions as it may help me to prepare for future instances where this topic will definately come up in conversation.

Why do people react with such horror/bewilderment/shock/ sympathy when you tell them you are happily single? I was the only singleton at a table of eight tonight and the conversation quickly turned to "so when are you going to meet someone, why are you still single, aren't you lonely, dont you want to settle down blah blah blah " you get my drift. i am only f.ucking 21 and defenately don't want to settle down with anyone any time soon.

Apparently my life cannot be as fulfilled as their's because Im supposedly missing out on some great big secret that only couples are in on. At first I laughed it off as casual interest but the tone quickly turned quite serious and I found myself under pressure to explain the choices in my life and try to justify why being single isn't a bad thing, often a personal choice and is not by any means some form of social disease I then got irritated with my myself for feeling oblidged to justify it knowing damn well that a lot of the people staring at me had far from perfect relationships with their other halves and would put Bold and the Beautiful story lines to shame! Laughing

So people in supposed happy, loving, carefree relationships what is it about a singletons life that makes you feel so uncomfortable? Why is it so hard for people to believe that a person can be happily single, straight (becasue apparently that will make a difference), independant and successful without needing to be in a serious realtionship? Will there come a day when a singleton can feel comfortable enough to dine alone, travel alone and be comfortable in the knowledge that the people around them wont judge them as some type of social experiement gone wrong? Dheelo:

Define single.

Are u talking in the sense of single as in not being married ?

Or single as not being in any committed relationship

Dheelo,

My friend with benefit's student visa expired and she had to go back to Holland Sad

Being single is fun: freedom, no emotional connections, no one depending on you.

The only reason I would marry is to have children, the Halal way.

Could be depends on your age. 21 is okay but I have seen 30 year olds single and that is not right cause everyone needs someone to love them.

There is a big difference when you are single and when you are not. Its totally different. Being single for a young guy is a bitch god knows how horny we get. Laughing

It seems to me after careful analysis YOU have already made up your mind. You plan to remain single for the rest of your life. Sad Now the reason for this strange choice is OF course entirely known to you, God knows we really dont want to 'delve' into it. Very Happy (being GAY of course is a highly probability, i mean 'just' from analyzing your thoughts) Cool

It seems to me at this instant, here in general forum what u are looking for is better defense system for future battle of those --invasive sympathetic questions. Rolling Eyes It seems to me you want us to tell you how to better state your choices with authority, defend yourself and explain yourself without any guilty justification. Alas, we CANNOT. Crying or Very sad

Of course in our society to be single is abhorable. You need to find yourself a partner very soon or you will be bound to be called the 'weirdo'. So my dear-- there is no easy answers to lifes delicious misfortunes, live it or die it. Laughing Laughing
