The irony of the Somali home owners
First of all, let's first take one thing into account b4 I start my rants, and that is "RIBA" is Xaraam, period. It's not a flexible Xukm.
Ok, now, here is where I look some Somali home "owners" with a scorn. He mortgages a house, he is in Xaraam to the hilt and he knows it, but, he tries to find some loopholes from a shady Sheikh who does some shady calculations.
Next morning, he calls you and the same shady Sheikh and his friends, prepares a meal and asks for some Qur'an recitation to bless the house!!!! the nerve, as if that would make it Xalaal.
I just got a call from a close friend regarding this issue, I wanted to go, have some decent lunch and leave, but I am thinking of not going.

Re: The irony of the Somali home owners
Yemenis in Oakland operate under a fatwa issued by a cleric in Yemen. I regret I don't know his name.
The line of reasoning in the fatwa is that paying high rent and never being able to own property is worse for the welfare of the family than paying ribca. A mortgage is acceptable, provided the house is exclusively for the use of the family and is not just an "investment" or means of making money.
My neighbors are practicing Muslims who own their homes under mortgage.

Topic :
Interest
Question:
I live in uk where every thing you want to buy is beeing sold with a mortgage with a certain interest rate and it is the only way to buy expensive things like house and a car.
Answer:
Dear Br. M.E. As-salaamu alaykum. In Islam, any transaction that involves interest is prohibited, and therefore, whether it is a car or a house, it is still considered Haram. Better live in a rented house that is blessed by God than to live in an owned house that has been purchased with disobedience. However, we are not telling you to stop at this stage and not seek to own a house. Try Islamic Investment and Financial houses, like Al-Barakah or other ones in the U.K. Please know that these institutions do provide no-interest financing, and they have Islamically acceptable contracts for your needs. You may also ssk at your local mosque where such institutions exist. Thank you for asking and God knows best.

Re: The irony of the Somali home owners
Subhanallah, Lugooyo haa isku degin.
I have decided to live in a rented house for the rest of my life if I cant afford a house with non-morgage.
One good salafi scholar told me the only Halal house buying arrangement he knows of is the part buy part rent scheme. You live in the house and buy a room or two, whatever you can afford and rent the rest at market value. As you buy more of the house your rent reduces correspondingly.

As most of you are aware of, tens thousands Americans recently lost (foreclosures, bank repossessions, etc) their homes, due to inability to make mortgage payments. They have defaulted. There's the risk element in buying/mortgaging a home. So, what good is losing your home in addition to the sin of riba?

The Lariba site I posted claims to be Islamic banking. It looks like it. Check it out.
Re: The irony of the Somali home owners
So everything with interest is haram? does that include credit cards and student loans? In today's world it's close to impossible to avoid interest especially working class people, that is the system in the west. Still, I would avoid buying expensive house on mortgage for financial reasons more than anything else.

Re: The irony of the Somali home owners
Even Islamic mortgage are Haram, I have been studying it and I was interested in Islamic Banking/Finance cause I wish Somalia to become a non-interest based Economy, But to the best of my knowledge they are just playing with the words, Islamic morgage is almost the same as a unlawful interest-based conventional mortgage .

Inflation/deflation has always existed it was not measured at that time but it existed right? There are several types of Riba and intrest rates is just one of them.
The traditional English name for interest is "Usury", just to make it sound good they changed it to interest. Its all Haram and Evil.
