Besides the smuggling of narcotic drugs, small arms and charcoal, the fourth most lucrative export item handled by the port of Bossasso is human cargo, usually made up of Somalis and Ethiopians trying to immigrate into Saudi Arabia through Yemen. It was actually in the early nineties when gangs trading in human smuggling sprang up in Bossasso.
