According to legend, the first muslim Somali in northern Somalia entered the land in the 12th century, when northern Somalia was ruled by the Yibir, who's king was a powerful sorcerer who wielded terrible powers. His favorite display of power was walking through the inside of mountains.

While inside one of these mountains, a Somali holy man in turn prayed for Allah to close the mountain upon him, killing him. Before he died though, the Yibir holy man cursed all Somalis and all of their descendants with terrible misfortunes. Upon birth, a newborn Somali could avoid the curse if he immediately paid a blood price for the dead Yibir king to the first Yibir his parents saw.

Be careful , Some Somalis claim to be related to other clans when in fact they belong to this clan and Tumaal. Majority of Waqoyi Tumaals and Yibir hide their identity under the shadow of fear and humiliation.

The Yibir played a big role in the campaigns of Imam Axmed Gurey, particulary in the battle of ShemberaKure where they and other Somalis faced 250,000 and defeated them , but Somalis being ignorant and illiterate find it better to hold on some imaginery curse or event that never happend.

They are under the confederation of Gabooye title. Like I said in my last comment, there is a girl in Ceerigaabo, which claims to be Habar Yoonis but is indeed Gabooye. She was born to a GAbooye family, but the girl was raised and adopted by Isaaq. The GAboooye are now asking the elders of the Habaryoonis to restore the girl to her Gaboye family so that she be culturally reshaped and conditioned to her true identity. Of course, it is now impossible to do but efforts are underway.

Hey, these people would turn up at your house, and sing some gabay with your newborn sons' abtiris and all that ish and demand that you pay them some money. How could any decent human being turn away poor people who'd traveled from far and wide to come to your house? Who cares about the curse, neither of my parents believed in it, it's just common courtesy.
