Somali ex-soldiers who had served with the British forces during the Second World War were often offered work on Royal Navy ships after the war."

My Awowe fought as a part of the King's African Rifles and saw action in Burma against the Japanese.

He would tell us stories of how brave the Japs were.

He used to collect his pension from the British until he died.
