PUNTLAND MOORYAAN BEHIND PIRACY
Mwangura told The Associated Press that "some elements" in the Somali transitional federal government and some businessmen in Puntland, a northeastern Somalia region, are involved because "piracy is a lucrative business."

Re: PUNTLAND MOORYAAN BEHIND PIRACY
The whole world allready knew Somali piracy was Majeerteen lock stock and barrel and you just found out now?
Why do you think Majeerteen were so interested in the fishing business and have the marine ministry in the TFG?
Millions are being made sxb with the Somali seas:
Piracy, toxic waste dumping, human trafficking and issuing of supposed official fishing licenses to foreign fishing companies.

Re: PUNTLAND MOORYAAN BEHIND PIRACY
I think they were Siwaaqroon not Cusmaan Maxamuud. Yeh they got a hold of expensive motors, but they sold them all and still got the ransom.
A lot of ransom money was paid over the years, we're talking about tens of millions. But the business has dried up, because no foreigners dare to come to near to the Somali coast anymore, which means less illegal fishing...!
Some Mareexaan amateurs during Hiiraale did the same shit on Kismaayo's coast. They captured a vessel, but they got arrested and sentenced in Nairobi. Now they're in the Kenyan prison system doing serious time.

funny how the pirates never attack the dozen of somali-owned dhows that operate between dubai and bosaso, they only go for foreigners

Re: PUNTLAND MOORYAAN BEHIND PIRACY
There was one embarrassing incident though, when some pirates tried to attack a cruiseship from Canada. The cruiseship panicked and the rich folks were screaming when they boys were firing rocket propelled grenades on the cruiseship. Than the cruiseship blew some kind of horn on them, making these Faraxs deaf and disoriented.
They got captured and arrested. Nobody has heard about them ever since, except their close relatives. They were Siwaaqroon too.

Re: PUNTLAND MOORYAAN BEHIND PIRACY
Piracy should be the only praised form of mooryanary in Somalia, in fact it is a patriotic form of mooryanary.
a) it makes tons of money at the expense of foreigners
b) it sends out a message to illegal fishers NOT to come to Somalia
Piracy.
