PBS's Frontline Showdown with Iran

Post by AbdiWahab252 »

I just finished watching it.

My favorite line was from the end by the Former Iranian Vice President Mohamed Ali Abtahi:

"Leaders in both countries do not see themselves as politicians but also see themselves as carrying out the word of God, and thats very dangerous for the world."

If Ahmedinajad doesn't stop talking, he'll be hanging from a rope like Saddam. No offense but he's barking up the wrong tree.

Iran's 'moderates' were making overtures to normalize relations and move forward w/ peace post-911 but they were told to F-off by the Bush Administration who thought they could go as far as regime change.

Then Iraq turned bad, Hizbollah humiliated Israel, Iran accelerated its program and the tides have turned against the Bush Administration which was drunk w/ arrogance a few years ago.

GedoBoy,

"Always negotiate when you have the upper hand because you will get a deal that is good to you than if you did with a weaker hand."

However, I don't see any winner in a conflict. Both sides have a lot to lose.

Ahmedinijad is a Genius.. and will not be hanging like the moron Sadam..

Iran has the right to pursue a civilian nuclear programme like India and other countries...

Its the US Islamophobic policies that barking up the wrong tree!

Iran has been under Saction for over 25 years.. they will not stop for an IDIOT like BUSH!!

Aw252,

It's not a question about winners/losers, it's a question about whether Iran will break out of the isolation.

You gotta remember, the US ultimately wanted regime change and the Bush Administration wanted something even more aggressive.

IF nothing else, the Iranian nuke will take the US hope of regime change off the table....when the US Adminstration realizes the Iranian regime is here to stay, they will talk in a different tone.

Did you see when the reporter asked the Quds force commander about the Explosively Formed Penetrators (the new deadly IEDs) and he was like: "You asked to interview me about the status of the Shias in the South......Abandon this line of questioning!"

that was cold!

GedoBoy,

It was refreshing but then again it is PBS who tend to be fair in their coverage. If it was FOX, i'd understand his cautiousness.

yeah but you know these reporters and how they are fishing for some content they can manipulate.

They were asking him about IEDs and if he were even to wade in there the possibility existed that the FOX-types will have a headline like: "Iranian Revolutionary Guard Leader Admits to producing IEDs"

That's why they are so much smarter and polished than the Arabs.....Saddam was running around talking about "Mother of all battles"

I gotta hand it to the Persians they are smarter

GedoBoy,

Its because they have always had a sense of identity and ruling structure since before Dairus.

Di.ck Armitage, former Deputy Sec. of State put it eloquently when he said the battle of Percepolis seems 2,000 years ago to us but the the Persians is it like it happened yesterday.
