This past summer i went to Saylac and it was a facinating experience to cross the border from djbouti and witness this old and historical city that every somali should visit since it contains so much of what happened during the period when somalians were a force to reckon with. The place is Hot but not as warm as djbouti and its basically a city that has really been abondoned since the war as almost half of the population has moved to djbouti city. Though its is very close to djbouti the main difference is the ground in saylac tends to be more of a rocky while djbouti is very salty and it seems ur falling in a hole when u cross the border as the elevation goes down. For those interested in Djbouti pictures let me know i have em also including lake Asal which i visited which is basically a Lake of Salt and the whole ground is pure white and looks like a snow but its really a salt. Enjoy. Laughing

Wow, the place is very scenic and beautiful. The first couple of pictures looked like a river, and the place is suprisingly green. Shocked

Also I think I saw a lighthouse in one of the pictures signifying that it might have been a very strategic place at one point. Were all those pictures Saylac? If so then I would say it has a very varied landscape.

Luq the pictures are off the an island across saylac and thats where i ran into lots of sharks i was telling ya about. Laughing Saylac Mainland isnt Green but an arid kinda type of landscape but once u cross into the islands its a different story and once u head south of it there is also bunch of swamps like where lots of camel herds gather.

Awdal,

Shocked at the sharks. Is that just how it is naturally or is there a reason for that? For instance I heard a lot of the waters outside Somalia are shark infested because people dump trash there? Could that be a reason or is it naturally shark infested?

Also I think I even saw like a three story modern house in one of the pictures. Pretty impressive. So where do the Saudi coastguards hang out? Also didn't you fall in love while you were in Saylac? Idea Laughing

Why would u go to a place just to look for a wife. Confused I honestly dont know the exact population but u must understand it flactuates because there are folkz who live on both sides of the border some of my family members being such, but an estimate i would give it would be around 70 thousand or so.

Luq_Ganane

Actually there isnt that much of trash dumbing as there is heavy US and Djboutian, French, saudi arabian and now the germans patrolling the area as i have told ya many ships pass through the area heading to the Suez canal but Sharks are just a fixture in the Red Sea and the waters are very shallow so its easier for them to feed. There are plenty of modern houses in the place but most of them are a summer retreat for folkz in djbouti who flee the heat and crowded streets of that City. I almost fall in love there since there is a very substantial presence of peopel who are Arabs descandants and are very pretty.

Awdal, I think the presense of all those Foregin guards is good because it means the waters are 100% safe (no piracy). The place would be great for business. Why don't you guys build a port? The place has a lot of potential.

"I almost fall in love there since there is a very substantial presence of peopel who are Arabs descandants and are very pretty".

No i cant do the Saylaci dance but i have witnessed it.

Luq_Ganane

A port in Saylac would mean the demise of Berbera and Djbouti, so u know that aint happenining but ya i guess the coast guards are good for being there but they arent there for protecting somalian coast but to gurantee the flow of oil tankers. Laughing
