Army tests invisible tank

Post by Sir-Luggoyo »

The Army is reportedly testing secret technology which makes tanks and troops invisible.

The Ministry of Defence revealed they made a vehicle seem to completely disappear in trials last week.

A soldier present at the trials told The Sun: "This technology is absolutely incredible. If I hadn't been present I wouldn't have believed it.

"I looked across the fields and just saw grass and trees - but in reality I was staring down the barrel of a tank gun."

The highly secret trials were conducted by the Royal Engineers and scientists from specialist researchers QinetiQ, the former research arm of the MoD.

The breakthrough uses cameras and projectors to beam images captured from the surrounding landscape on to a specially-adapted tank coated with silicon to maximise their reflective qualities.

The result is that the naked eye sees only the view which is behind the tank.

The MoD are also testing a military jacket which works on the same principles.

Professor Sir John Pendry of Imperial College London, the world's leading authority on the physics of invisibility, said: "It is realistic to expect battlefield applications in five years - given sufficient funding.

"The theory is done and dusted. The hard work now goes into development."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this initial stage, it sounds unbeatable, however, (and I am not a physics genius) it seems as if an interruption to the projected beam can disrupt the illusion created, hence disclose the actual figure

People will create goggles that can see through the reflected images before the tank even makes a debut. Laughing Waste of money.........

thats nothing its been done in labs 12 year ago.

now if they can do the same with other bits of the spectrum like infra red and UV then we are going somewhere.

the latest generation of anti tank missles are boith laser and radar guided.

To kill is to be human,

its part of our nature.

now a world where no one kills, and love is all around
would be truly alien

that affects just vision, people could just introduce ground radar or something like that .......

not to mention ground surveillance or recon that could determine troop presence.

all you have to do is shoot at it and you would know its position.
