Arab sheik says: Somali civil war was a Gift to Muslims

In a speech at my local Masjid, an Arab sheik said the following, and I'm quoting him as closely as I can:

"The Somali civil war was a gift to the world. It took the Somali people, usually a very secretly-kept group whose culture and ethics was a mystery to much of the world, especially other Muslim nations -- and it proliferated them across the globe.

Today, daily in Minneapolis we see these people living by the halal way of life in more consistency than any other group I've ever seen. They abide by local laws while retaining their old culture. They own large quantities of Minneapolis businesses and property while avoiding interest and other economic sins.

They set an example for all Muslims in the West. Somalis who make large salaries would rather live in a small yet interest-free home and own a used yet interest-free car over a big house and a new car that come with interest. They have inspired the way I live and made me a better Muslim and a better man. And without the civil war, this would have been impossible."

Allah SWT has already written how things will go forth

at the same time, under that umbrella, people have the free choice to do this or that

so when Somalis came to the West they had the choice of retaining/strengthing their Islam or be wilded away by all the perks and charms of this dunya

so the sheikh brought a good point

I dont know about the civil-war being good but I agree somalis are good muslims compared to other communities here in the states.

I don't whether it was a gift to anyone but there is always something positive or good to be derived from everything and many positives have been derived from the civil war. We are everywhere in the world getting educated, economically prospering, and have shared our culture and way of life with the world.
