The healing effect of lawyers !!!!!!!!!!

It's amazing the effect lawyers can have on a situation. Since my three-month marriage and 18-month divorce, I haven't had a nice word to say for my ex-husband. People sometimes ask if we ever had a nice time together. I always say no. Was there anything nice about him? No. Why did you marry him? I don't really know.

When I remember our relationship I mostly remember the day in court when, after the hearing and settlement, I ran down the stairs in my new coat and came out into the lobby at the same time that my ex-husband and his team of lawyers were coming out of the lift. They were all laughing heartily about the success of their tactics. It was the way they all swiftly reassembled their expressions when they saw me - I've hated my ex-husband mainly since that moment.

The other day, though, I came across some cards and letters he'd sent me before we were married. It was a shock as I thought I had nothing left from that time, and it was more of a shock when I read them and saw how adorable they were. It was a shock to remember that there had been anything nice about him at all.

Granted we should never have got married or, probably, even have been together. However, it was a genuine surprise to recall that he wasn't, in fact, all bad. So now, instead of blaming him (entirely, anyway) I now blame the lawyers.

Particularly, his lawyers. And no, I still refuse to - and nor will I at any time in the future - take any responsibility for this at all. Ex-husband: quite bad (though not ALL bad). Lawyers: worse. Me: blameless, obviously.
