Who coined that term? Was it Mu'awiya bin Suffian?

Re: Ahl Al Sunnah waa Al-Jama'ah
What makes you think anyone coined it? The pharse has been derived from the narrations of the Prophet (SCW). The Prophet (SCW) said that the succesfull ones are those who are on the same path and him and his companions so they the successful ones were referred to as Ahl al-Sunnah (People who adhere to the Sunnah). The Prophet (SCW) also said in another narration that the Ummah will split in to 73 sects and that only 1 will enter Paradise whilst the rest in Hell. When the Sahabas asked which one it is, he said, the Jama'ah (meaning those who are upon the same path as his and Companions).

Navy,
Muawiyah's son Yazid was even worse! Let's not forget this family committed treachery and ended up with the blood of the Prophet's grandson (saw) on their hands.

The term was used by the Umayyads for political purposes against the followers of Ali ibn abi Talib.

Hassan didn't want more bloodshed after the murder of his brother and his family so he agreed or was forced to sign treat with him. No doubt was political war than religion. We still coinning names and titles to gain politial points on our opposition.
