The name Cabdi -- are Somalis commiting shirk unknowingly?

Cabdi (Abdi) linguistically stands for 'slave of' or 'servant of'. It is normally accompanied by one of the Names of Allah (SWT) like Cabdulaahi, i.e., slave of Allah.

What troubles me is how many Somalis have opted to ommit the second part of the Name of Allah and decided to be called just 'Cabdi'. Now the problem with this is, that the void left by removing one of the Names of Allah is replaced by the name of the father so e.g Cabdi becomes Cabdi Maxamed which is literally translated as 'slave of Maxamed' which equals to equating 'his father' to the Lord of the Worlds.

I think it depends on the niya....

when you say Cabdi Mxmd it is not possessive...you're not saying the Slave of Mxmd....it's just the last name in the abtiris.

I think normally shirk is reserved for bid3a and manaasik deen. I may be wrong though Allah knows.

What's wrong with it. Cabdi is like Charlie or Billy, you're reading too much into it. At the end of the day Allah judges your intentions (niya), and I don't think Cabdi [insert father's name] is intentionally being meant as slave of his father.

What a load of bullshit yalaxow. All the Cabdis, even from the baadiyaha of yesteryears were actually named Cabdisalaan or Cabdiraxiim etc.

Kids nowadays born in the 80s and 90s are called Cabdi, but they were named Cabdifitaax or Cabdilatiif etc.

It's a ridiculous notion to think people could fool Somalis, as sceptic as they are. Somali men have been travelling to the Arabian peninsula for centuries and their up to date knowledge always reached the deepest of the inner baadiye.
