Lessons learnt from the Somali civil war
here goes my list
1) Hawiye can't eliminate Daarood (dabargoynta Daaroodka was a fantasy)
2) No Somali tribe can totally subdue another tribe
3) You can't make a wadaad out of Mooryaan in few months
4) You can have the best phone services without a government
5) Somaliland will never secede
6) Hawiye and Isaaq are related "the irrir umbrella"
7) Qabiil qaran ma noqon karo
what do you think are the real lessons learnt from the 17 year old Somali civil war?

Re: Lessons learnt from the Somali civil war
Pretty much summed it up. I really think if the situation in Xamar could get resolved (1st Eitho out), Somalia will be in good shape. A lot of people from around the world pay a lot of money to make sure Xamar always stays a shid hole as its the capitol of the country. The relative stability in all the other parts of the country was somewhat amazing the past 17 years.

Luq,
I red some case studies about how some government regulations on Telecommunication sector limits profitability and encourage monopolies as these regulations require multi-million dollar deposit to issue carrier licenses.
A failed state like Somalia was used as a case in point where market forces not government regulations dictate how to manage supply and demand thus encourage competition.
As a failed state Somalia has much petter calling rates and coverage footprints than many African countries.
Somalia can be rebuilt in few years by the diaspora if security is restored.
Another positive from the civil war is that we have witnessed a decentralised development, where most people invested in their traditional territories and not placed all their eggs on one basket like we did with Mogadisho for the past 50 years.
the decentralised model works best with the current federal system, where state capital and infrastructure is maintained by local govts and are dispersed throughout the whole country.
the only concern with the decentralisation is that there might not be anough Somalis to efficiently develop all regions at the sametime, therefore we will always have regional concentration of capital in some areas like for example,
Mog, Hargaisa, Bosaso, Kismaayo, Baydhabo, Gaalkacyo, etc.

whahahahahah, even a ogaden ethiopian dude knows about the stupidity of Ali Naafto.
But he wanted to become president of somalia?!
La hawla wa la quwati ila billah.
The best lesson to learn from somali civil war is:
1 hawiyeland doesnt want darod as president.
Wallahi if you dont believe me then sent the ethiopian troops back. We will see if A/Y survives in Xamar presidential palace!
2 somalis cannot unite because of anarchy culture in their blood, they have proven this since 15 century. So they should make their own mini-countries.

Re: Lessons learnt from the Somali civil war
The main lesson learnt here over the past few years is
-- no tribe or clan can undermine another clan
-- no tribe is stronger than another tribe
--only by people putting their differences aside and working together will peace be achived ....i.e.. somaliland..

Re: Lessons learnt from the Somali civil war
1. Darood pride/power = myth exposed in 90s.
2. Mogadishu= land of the most patriots. Still resisting ethiopian colonism till today after one year of heavy bombardment and xasuuq on the masses.
3. A clear line have been drawn between those who favour qabiil over qaran. Mogadishu on the safe side.
4. No one clan 'Should' subdue another.
5. Somali people maturing out of warlordism from Qanyare to M'dheere and from Barre hiraale to moragn to A Yusuf.
6. The 4.5 formula = a Tottal catastrophe as it always puts the illiterate warlords from all clans before the intellectual politcians.
7. The real enemy of the somali people = warlords from all clans.

Re: Lessons learnt from the Somali civil war
The main lesson that we have learned is
1) Never have a Mj as a presiednt or in a powerful position
2) Warlords must be dealt with either death or exile
3) We need to form a real somali government to watch out for the habesh.
4) The somali national Army needs to be set up again to defend us agianst the Habesh
We need good leaders to help our nation raise up again, inshallah.

Re: Lessons learnt from the Somali civil war
However really I think these lessons are more for Hawiye to ponder. Their lands were the most turbulent throughout the war and lack of a strong Somali State has affected them the most considering the holocost there going through right now. In my opnion AY, Barre Hiiraale are not warloards, but just the go to guy for their clans when it comes to politics. However the 200 warloard problem is a problem Hawiye have to figure out. They realized in 2006 but that was far, far too late. Too bad for them.

If they are no warlords, then I can understand why some people reason that men like M.Dheere etc are no warlords themselves.
However lets not delude ourselves. These individuals are all warlords, and somehow responsible for the current situation in Somalia.
Only their hardcore supporters can argue otherwise.
