A look into a day in the life of a stay-at-home mom.
Being a stay at home mom is not the easy job many assume that it is. Many women today are making the choice to stay at home and raise their children, and finding out just how difficult it can be!
Up at 10 till 7
I set my alarm clock for 6:30, even though I get up at 10 till 7. I also set my clock in my bedroom a little fast. I like my sleep, and I enjoy hitting the snooze button. Many times.
I go downstairs and turn on the Today Show (I enjoy waking up to Matt Lauer). Then I go to the kitchen and start straightening up a little. I usually have a load of clothes still in the dryer from the night before, so I turn that on to give them another little spin and get them warmed up so I can take them out and fold them in a few minutes. I also usually have several dishes from the night before, so I take the ones in the drainer out and put them away, and fill up the sink to wash the dirty ones. As I'm doing this, I find a few things along the way that need picked up, put away, wiped up, or thrown away, so I do all that. Then I head upstairs to wake my son. My husband is usually awake.
Wake up Zach!
It usually takes me a few tries to get Zach up. Much like his mother, Zach enjoys staying up late and sleeping in. I finally get him to where he is ready to get up. I pick out several outfits and show them to him, and tell him to figure out which one he wants to wear. I always think I need to start helping him pick out his clothes the night before, but for some reason, I never do that. I leave Zach to get dressed and I head back down the steps (I seem to get a lot of exercise just from going up and down our steps every day!).
I check Zach's book bag and make sure he has everything he needs. I check to make sure I remembered to look at his work and sign it, and sign his agenda book. (We never had this stuff to worry about when I was in kindergarten!) When thats okay, I go back into the kitchen and pack his lunch. Zach likes to take a cold lunch. I try to put decent food in it, that he will eat, like Goldfish crackers and apples and pretzels. It usually doesn't matter what I put into it, however, because most of it usually comes back. He doesn't like to eat at school.
Off to Catch the Bus
Zach puts on his coat and hat, and his book bag and its out the door we go. The bus is there at 7:48, and luckily for us, it pulls up right in front of our house. Sometimes, we have to sit for a minute and wait, other days, we rush out the door as it's pulling up, depending how slow we were moving that day.
After I make sure my child is safely on the bus, and I have seen him waving from the bus window, I go back inside the house. When the weather cooperates, I go next door to see my aunt, and we go for a walk around the town. We walk for about an hour, to get some exercise.
More and More Chores
When I return from my walk, it's back to my countless chores: several loads of clothes, including folding and putting them away, finish the dishes, picking things up, mopping, sweeping, dusting, cleaning out the refrigerator, cleaning out the kitty litter box., scrubbing the sinks and toilet, cleaning my room, cleaning the boys room, the list is countless. And I admit, I don't do every single thing every single day.
In between the chores, to break up the monotony of it all, I like to mess around on my computer, talk to my friends, check my emails, and I am a writer wannabe, so I like to do some writing. I get Zach off the bus at 3:30.
Sometimes in the middle of this activity, I remember to lay out some meat for dinner. If not,I have to hurry and find something to throw together before my husband gets home at 5:30. So sometimes we have a meal that I took along time to cook, and sometimes we just have chicken strips and french fries that I took out of the fridge and tossed in the oven, and sometimes, I admit, I let my husband worry about it!
Bed Time
After we eat dinner, I go back to finish doing whatever needs to be done, like putting the clothes away and straightening up the rooms, or whatever. I do that until its time to get Zach ready for bed. He gets his shower and pj's on, then we like to watch TV for a little while, till about 9 or 10, then its lights out. Sometimes I get back up and get on the computer. The next day, it starts all over again.
When you are a stay at home mom, there is always something that need s to be done.
