At Last: Somalia earns my Respect

Post by Metal »

A random article I saw today really caught my eye.

Read the regional administrator's Priorities and check #4, everything is now in the books for Somalia's success.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Consolidation and enhancement of security and public order, including the effective implementation of UN DDR (United Nations, Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration) combat terrorism and strengthening of the judiciary system.

2. The speed up of the constitutional and democratization process.

3. Unfolding humanitarian crisis of immense proportions including an influx of IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) from South-Central Somali, massive displacements from Las Anod and refugees from Ethiopia, scattered between Galkacyo and Bossaso in terrible conditions and many risking their lives in trying to cross the dangerous seas into Arabia. This situation has put a tremendous amount of pressure on the already meager resources of Puntland.

4. Infrastructure rehabilitation and development: Bossaso Port immediate dredging work and the long term expansion of the port, Galkacyo to Garowe road needs resurfacing; feeder roads to the population and economic centres need to be developed.

5. Institutional development and capacity building of Puntland’s public institutions.

6. Urgent response on environmental degradation, charcoal burning, coastal waste dumping and wildlife extinctions.

7. Coastal and fishery protection: illegal fishing, combating sea piracy, terrorism and waste dumping.

8. Poverty reduction and humanitarian protection through sector-wide approach strategy of social services delivery.
