Solar panels on every Tel Aviv rooftop!

Post by NoAngst. »

Somalis should take inspiration from this. Watch this video taken in Tel Aviv. I don't know the exact figures but I'm sure Somalia ranks very high as one of the hottest countries in the world getting more sun radiation than anywhere else. In fact, I read somewhere that Luuq is the hottest place on earth!!! Solar power can provide boundless renewable energy. Solar panels for example can power water pumps for wells and irrigation schemes.

Yeah, it would be a good idea to take this step.

Also, because of the possibility of looting & instability, it is not practical to try to develop large-scale infrastructure. Smaller & more sparsely distributed would be the way to go.

a few years ago, my brother and i had an idea that involves solar panels and somalia, 6 months into the project we had to cancel it, why? competition, there are others out there with far more resources than we had available, including having decision making dirty politicians and other persons of high networth in the area in their pockets, its a greedy business dealing with somalis, on top of that there is clan.

The-Screw,

So if there's such stick competition why hasn't solar panels taken off in Somalia?

mostly b/c foriegn based companies in many areas from telecoms to healthcare are all affraid to make deals with corrupt somali politicians without any gurentees, its whats keeping billion dollar empires out of somalia right now, lack of government, many profitable projects have been shelved indefinately b/c of it.

^^ Oh I thought you were competing against other Somalis....

in that case, your small size might be an opportunity instead of a liability.....you could try to move a few units at a time or try to place the units in semi-commercial places like schools or Xawaala centers since they already have the security thing figured out if they're still operating.

I think moving in and doing something relatively small-scale would be better b/c if foreign private investment did ever come, the people currently doing something on the ground would be the ones in a position to be invested in b/c you already have a track record and 'know the terrain' so to speak and the ins 'n outs of what's happening.

Xawaalas have probably shown that the only way you can make money in Somalia is by essential needs & by skimming a bit out of each transaction......

I wouldn't think large-scale in Somalia just yet.

we were competing with not only somalis but foriegners too, you guys don't realize this but there are people from other countries eyeing somalia right now, somalia is still a virgin, and as soon as there is a legit government, expect few mohameds and abdi's on the forbes rich list.

I don't think I would see them on the Forbes list for at least 2 reasons:

1. Unless we're talking MASSIVE amounts of natural resources (energy, diamonds, gold) 8 million Somalis with scare hard capital & no resources in the country would not be a large market.

2. Somalis will continuously undercut themselves out of fear of the next businessman. They wouldn't control the investment capital so how would they control the profits. It would be an investor's market in Somalia.

A few people would get a good deal for themselves, exploitation for the rest.

No I don't but when you are talking Forbes you are talking Russian, Indian, American, European industrial magnates with a few billionaire Arab petrol sheiks.......

How does Somalia fit into that?

Sudan has sick natural oil reserves and the Chinese are having a bonanza there but do we know of even 1 ridiculously rich Sudani yet?

Screw this can be done in somalia,

you need to be based in somalia, and be politicaly and qabiil savvy.
you cannot run this from the outside.

my family has experienced this first hand,

we lost a friggin fortune due to the same reasons you qouted,
alomst bankrupted ourselves but weve survived.

you need ot be ahrd headed.
