Halal Business Practices Guide Needed

Post by AbdiWahab252 »

Its very difficult to run a halal business in the sense of the word.

For example, if you own a business, is it haram to accept CREDIT CARDS ?

What if you own a motel and you know that not all the guests are married who may use the room for zina ?

Or if you are setting up a restaurant and have a partner who wants to run the bar, is it haram to sell the food while he sells the booze ?

So does anyone know where I can get a good guide for halal business practices ?

Abdi

Try online training and get them to pay cash by their card i.e you dont take any creadit card

Also how about a halal corner shop!

Consultancy where people pay you cash

The list is endless!

Leila2007,

I am thinking of this upscale Somali/East African restaurant with a small bar for my gaal friend to manage (he kicks in 60% for the operations since booze is more profitable).

Is this haram ?

About not accepting credit cards, business would be very slow esp. in the West.

Abdi

I thought you wanted something halal

I have this indian restaurant that I go to good food and generaly a nice place. The owner is a muslim paki and he caters for the cadan market so sell alcohol. I asked him one day why he did that. The aswer was it is hard to do halal business in the West and will ask for forgiveness lol

I think we have choices you know. Depends how bad you want the money !

Leila,

You can't make it in the restaurant game without selling booze.

Btw, some of the owners of the biggest clubs/strip bars i been to have been Muslim.

The logic for one was, "Sisi ni watu wa Islam na tume gombana na hawa kafir. Tu chukuwe pesa zawo na tu ruidasha kwa inchi zetu."

abdi,

just open a somali restaurant, they never serve alcohol, and i have yet to see somali restaurant accept a credit card. heck some of em' xitaa debit ma qaataan.

btw: nothing wrong with credit card purchases if you avoid the interest by paying the total balance on time.

Zulaika,

I love using my credit card to buy everything (pay it off in full) and I snag about $1,000 in cash rewards from using them.

However as a merchant, I wouldn't want to feel I am contributing to someone's payment of interest.

Btw: I never trust Somali merchants with my credit card info.

Leila2007,

Mimi ni chukuwa interest kwa sababu, mtu ingine ata chukuwa. A bank uses your $$ to loan out to other people who pay interest and why let them keep it all (if you put all your money into a noninterest account).

All my interest is paid out to needy relatives and schools in Somalia. That money would have gone straight to the bank's bottom line (na tuwezi ku wuja wata faina nini na hiyo pesa)

actually that's not your problem coz its the same as renting out a residential property to tenants, how would u know what they do inside the premises? u don't... and u don't bear the burden of their dambi either. at least that's how i reason that sort of business.

Leila,

Siku hizi tunayo "inflation".

Zulaika,

True but you may be contributing to the problem. I know in some Muslim countries they ask for proof of marriage.
