The Catholic Church in Somalia...
How active is the Catholic Church in Somalia?
Last week, I had a converstation with this old white guy about it.
Here is how it went..
White dude: Crazy weather...
Me: Ya..hate snow, can never get used to it..
White dude: where you from?...
Me: Somalia..
White dude; OH i was there back in 98-99, we went in a big group.. You know the Catholic Church right, we started out from the Kenyan border and went all over..
Me: Hmm (thinking to myself these bastard are trying to take advantage of the situation for their own agenda) Before i could say something someone called me away..
So do any of you know how active these christian organizations are in Somalia?

I know some of these Church group show up in regions and do like peace activities, humanitarian work etc. but I think thats as far as it goes. Who knows they may do something with the Bantus though. The bottom line is you know Somalis are after bufis, so they don't give a damn to play along, lol...

Muslim Clerics Warn Afghanistan's President Against Missionaries
By VOA News
05 January 2008
Islamic clerics in Afghanistan are warning the country's president to stop foreign aid groups from doing missionary work in the country.
Members of the Afghanistan Islamic Council say they are concerned about the activities of some international non-governmental groups that are trying to convert Afghan Muslims to Christianity. The group made the statement after meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Friday.
The clerics warned of what they called "catastrophe" if the activities were not prevented.
Taliban militants took some 23 South Korean Christian missionaries hostage in July 2007, killing two and releasing the remainder.
Afghanistan's Islamic Council also urged President Karzai to crack down on certain television programming that it says is spreading immorality and non-Islamic culture in the country.

Re: The Catholic Church in Somalia...
It is not the catholic church !!
Waxaad ka hadlaysaan ba ma garanaysaan .
The catholic church in Somalia has been there since colonization.
These people do not engage in recruiting or converting people to their faith . There was a certain number of nuns in Somalia for example one has even been shot and killed in Xamar in retaliation for the cartoons published in Denmark , by the very XAYAWAAN that you guys call muslim fighters .
Anyway , they do not help people in order to convert them , but they do it for THEMSELVES , for they believe their salvation depend on it.
Those who are involved in proselytization are the protestant churches , such as the evengelicals and others.

You're mistaken. The Catholic church does engage in missionary/evangelical activities in Somalia, as with other Christian churches such as the Lutheran. With regard to the Catholic nun, Leonella Sgorbati, who was killed in 2006, it's not known who was behind the killing. Given the state and condition of Somalia at the time she was killed, it wasn't smart for a Catholic nun to be in Somalia (especially Mogadishu) altogether. Besides, Leonella Sgorbati was known for missionary/evangelical activities as she was a member of the Consolata Missionary Sisters. In November 1993, she was elected regional superior of the Consolata Missionary Sisters in Kenya, a duty she performed for six years.

Re: The Catholic Church in Somalia...
That is very true. there are way too many somalis who have become christians to get help. I know of such mission in eastleigh where somalis even go to night services!
I have heard of somali christian music subhanaAllah.

Re: The Catholic Church in Somalia...
It is really difficult to convert Somalis, that is why most of them give up after a while when they realise no one is interested.
Laakin back in the day, the Catholic church took in many homeless children and raised them as christians, some are still christian. Actually the only Somali christians out there are those raised by catholic nuns....and those who claim to have converted to get sharci..
