I wasn't born in Somalia, in fact I've never been there.
I'd like to one day though.

Despite the theories put forward by some people, I am not Somali.

Marax,

Jeedka Gedo bax raac, what you have to say is of no interest to me. Tanag U.

James,

Very well then. I'm curious as to who you know so much and in great detail about Somalia especially the various inter-clan conflicts. Its a rarity that someone who is non somali could have that great of knowledge about the Somali politics.

I'll PM you a photo from my flickr, FAH.
I'm not sure what it was exactly that got me interested at first. I think it's the fact that Somalia is something of a political universe unto itself. All the political actors are in the diplomatic equivalent of outer space, and all the rules that usually apply, don't. Thus, it is unique in the world.

It's a uniqueness that is a curse, not a blessing, but it does make it an endlessly fascinating country.

I live near Commercial Drive in East Vancouver.
Lots of interesting shops and restaurants nearby, mostly Ethiopian, or Italian, but there's the only Somali restaurant I know of in Vancouver near there as well, the Red Sea Cafe. I've been meaning to go there for a while, as I've never eaten Somali food.

East van can be well dodgy at times, but that's all that keeps the yuppies away so I don't mind.

MJ-Pride:
You only have to read posts on this site for a month to know all the nicknames for clans and leaders. Somalis love nicknames, and usually prefer using them to the proper name. Usually it's not even their real name, I mean who talks about Mohamed Omar Habeb and Abdi Hasan Awal?

Question for James: If you're not somali why are you so interested in somali politics?
