Regrets 'till this day

Post by Cali_Gaab »

There are a few topics on here about the diin that reminded me of a certain experience i had a few years back.

There was a Jordanian man who used to be very regular at the masjid, or he was there whenever i was there at least.
One time after asr prayer he asked me and 2 other boys to stay behind so we could talk, some other guys i knew have told me before of a certain man in masjids approaching them.

He started asking us a few simple questions about our diins, where we originate from and asked us too read a few suurah's. I found all of this a bit odd but just complied anyway.
Less than two months later he rented a little 1 bedroom groundfloor accomodation and turned it into malcaamad/dugsi for me and my friends who decided to attend after we got to know him.
We were all at the ages of 16-18. The group started of with 4 somali youths including me and started to grow 'till it reached a number close to 16 or 17 roughly.

He tought us quite a lot about the diin and made us perform prayer regularly, more often than i used to perform. Some of us even used to go at Isha and morning prayers. Our family's were quite happy at the fact that he kept us from going astray like a lot of other people at the same age from the city.
There was this one odd occurance where an Iranian man used to join us quite frequently, claimed to be an Shi'ah and wanted to convert to Sunni.
He did so and apparently later on the Jordanian sheikh told us the man was a informant for the police and that they have sent him to monitor the group for any suspicious activities. Time after time we used to get new members, act strangly and then dissapear of the face of the earth after a short period, majority of these times they were somalis.

Next thing you know, there are rumours circulating the city that the man is an extremist who has been expelled from his country for certain acts commited by a certain group he belonged to. I found this quite odd as it was only our family's that knew about this man and we learned about our diin from him and made sure he kept us from going astray, which made them happy in the long run.

Around the time of these new rumours another man joined who happened to be an imam at a masjid not too far from the place were we had our malcaamad/dugsi. He didn't neccesarily act all suspicious like the previous members who started attending along with us but the rumours around his time of stay started to become more and more ridiculous.

After a good 6 weeks of him stayin he asked us individually to come to the masjid where he's an imam on a Saturday and was the of two days where we didn't go to the Jordanian sheikh. We all agreed and met him there for Magrib prayer.
Once the prayer was performed and the majority of the people left the masjid, he took us all to one corner and asked us too sit down.
He had 3 other men with him and started telling us that the Jordanian man we always go to is an "terrorist", trying to decieve us from the truth and wants to steer us to extremism and suicide bombings which is the reason why he targets young men around our age as it is easier to mess with their heads.

Long story cut short.....eventhough i had my doubts i agreed not to attend anymore and was mainly caused by the other boys agreeing to what the somali "imam" demanded us too do and claimed the whole city is worrying about how he's trying to misguide us and the other youth.
Being a few years older now i realise that i should have never stopped attending as i'm quite sure i would have been much better regarding my knowledge of the diin and performance of salat.
Everytime i hear people discussing diin (Voltage and the other guys on the other topics) i always think of that man and how i've betrayed him as i'm sure he didn't have nothing but good intentions for us.

I was hoping there's somebody else on here who've got regrets from their passed actions that make them feel miserable from time to time and can make me feel like an angel.

Since u were young and older people were actually advvicing u to stop going to him I don't think u should punish ur self too much over it.

But anyways its odd that teaching kids Quran and making them pray Salat makes u an extremist. Subhana'Allah

loool, sxb something similiar had happen to me too......but our scholar was an African American odey, he had all these religious text at his home and etc. we use to visit him on regular basis and take lessons from him about on various subjects of the diin. Then the somali community (the ever paraniod odayaal and islaamo) started getting suspicious and started accusing the guy of being an FBI, government agents, pedo, etc, so slowly we distant ourself from him and eventually he moved out. kinda fuked up.

I dont wanna say this in english so somali baan niigu sheegi.

kuwii diyaarada dabaqa la galey baa right across from us daganaa and somalis being obsessed with arabs dhihi jirey kuwaas diinta ka barta while odeyga madowga yasi jireen!

The city wan't worrying about the sheik misguiding u, they were worrying about being accused of being a _______ being arrested and deported. I hope all is well with the sheik.

True indeed, which is why i try to refrain from labelling people based on hear'say, especially when they're painted in a bad light. I'd rather find out for myself than act up on word of mouth.
