wife beatings in islam.... is it really right?
read this verse V carefully... its from the quran
.. "As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly)" ...
i dont know wat 2 make of this walahi, when it says "whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct,"
wat does that mean? if the wife cheating? if shes being rude? if shes not doing whats shes suppose 2do? maxay?
when it says "(and last) beat them (lightly)"
define lightly, can i grab the end stick of a mob and go kung fu style on her, or by "lightly" does that only mean a small smack on the face?
am not here 2make things look bad... the only reason i ask this, is cuz some cadaan girl mentioned it on tv using this 2 insult islam. while the man cudnt argue bk smartly.
unfortunately ive never understood da meanin of the quran. i kno islam is correct i just need some 1 2expln this 2me in detail....... ur opinions r wlc tho

Re: wife beatings in islam.... is it really right?
Yes, but only if she doesn't do as he asks. The beating must cease if the woman complies with her husband's demands. Beating is also intended to be the last resort, behind verbal abuse and abandonment.
Prophet Mohammad saws, himself, is recorded as physically striking his favorite wife Aisha in the chest one evening when she left the house without his permission
.Aisha narrates, "He struck me on the chest which caused me pain."
Sahih Muslim, Book 004, Number 2127
But it is NOT PERMISSIBLE TO STRIKE HER IN THE FACE, CAUSE ANY BODILY HARM OR EVEN BE HARSH

Re: wife beatings in islam.... is it really right?
The problem is, you can not take a verse from the Quran and interpret it as you like. This is bad and frawned upon. You have to look to the sunnah of the prophet muhammed (saw) for guidance and how to impliment this. You have to read the tafsir of the verse to fully understand it. The Scholars have made it easier for us, alxmadulilah. It may seem like too much effort, but it isnt, that is why seeking knowledge in Islam is soooooooooo important and vital, one of the things we will be accounted for, why we failed to seek knowledge and what we have done with the knowledge we had.
So by people jumping to conclusions is just sinful. The Quran alone is the words of Allah and very important, but we need to understand it through gudiance. For example, the Quran does not say pray 5 times a day. We learnt that from our nabi (saw).. The Quran tells us to pray but it doesnt teach us How to pray, we learnt that from our nabi (saw) as the sunnah. .. So when vital things like the prayer, the first thing we will be asked about on judgement day is important to us and something we can not just use to Quran.. imagen the rest of our Islamic lives? Everything has to be based on the Quran, through the Sunnah!!!
If beating is permissible in islam then why did our Nabi tell us not to beat them? And Children? Why would he?
Its simple. The verse, is alot longer than that, and beating is the last resort. A god fearing Muslim would not even get to that stage. He would do the rest so effectivly that beating wouldnt even be an option.
Secondly, you have to look at what 'beating' is.. the arabic term is not 'beat' but 'strike'. When the Prophet (saw) was asked about this verse, he explained you beat them without scaring or bruising them. You do this with a siwak(a twig-like) with the Quran under your arm. And ofcourse, anyone with sense knows that this will not cause pain or harm in any manner.. and that is the intension. ..........Like I said a God Fearing person wouldnt even get to this stage, by where he has the Quran under his arm? Allahu Akbour.

Re: wife beatings in islam.... is it really right?
THIS IS THE AYAH IN FULL ---
The Holy Qur'an Sureh 4 Ayeh 34 says:
Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the rightneous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance); for Allah is Most High, Great (above you all).

This explains it aswell.
Also, dont be down grading women when there is a whole Surah-Chapter of the Quran dedicated to WOMEN!.. How you gonna try and disgrace them with Allah is showing mercy through this surah to them?
And a woman can also file for divorce if her husband is really abusing her, Allah has the right to punish his servants and no one else. :)
