Somalia: Unpaid soldiers seize central bank in Puntland

(SomaliNet) Troops loyal to the authority of the Somalia' northeastern semi-autonomous region of Puntland seized control of the central bank in the region's capital city of Garowe on late Sunday clamoring for their rights, the local media reports.

Heavy armed soldiers armed with battlewagons stormed this afternoon the bank claiming that they were not paid for several months.

"The soldiers cut off all roads in and out of the bank and stopped all people from passing before the bank. They were protesting against the Puntland government," a local resident said.

The authorities in Puntland did not so far talk about the mutiny of the unpaid soldiers.

Meanwhile, the Puntland security forces confiscated a vehicle carrying large amount of fake Somali Shilling note, local official said.

The mayor of Bari province in Puntland state Muse Yusuf said the money smugglers have been arrested. "They are now being investigated by the police to find out where exactly the false money came from," he said.

The mayor said the money aimed to destabilize the region's security. The fake money is believed to be the root cause of the current inflation.

This is not abt me, am just breaking the news, plus who says i hate on Mj pride, walahi the brother is cool, i have nothing against him.

By the way i am a hardcore supporter of adde muse, he is doing a great job in puntland, lol.

galia, this used to happen before. we even went through a civil war before. it takes a whole lot to make Puntland collapse. adiga Galmudugkaaga ku ekow and build some elementary schools.

Puntland has Banks??? They mean Xawala I think. There are no functioning banks in Somalia(including all the La La Lands)

There's a large GM state bank at Galmudug state, however its safe its our defense forces are well paid and taken care of.
