Re: Computer nerds...Help!!!!
your sound driver is gone when you have formated.
When you have re-installed your XP ( i presume, the sound is not installed, XP does not come with the sound driver.
to find out if the driver is missing go to
start ==> control panel==> administration tools==> computer management==> and click on device manager.
they will be a yellow exclamation mark or a yellow question mark on sound, video and game controller.
you need to get the CD that came with your pc originally and rigth click on the yellow mark and install driver from the cd location.
If you have lost the cd, then go to the website of your computer manufacturer and download from there

Go to troubleshoot and use its search engine to locate the problem.
Re: Computer nerds...Help!!!!
Is your computer a brand name?
If so, try to put the model # in Google or go to the manufacturer's website & search for your model's sound card driver & install it.
Windows XP should detect most common soundcards. If it doesn't you'll need to provide some more info.

right-click on my computer
-click on manage
-click on device manager (to the left)
on to the right handside look for category called OTHER DEVICES
anything that is listed under OTHER DEVICE is hardware that needs drivers. So look for ur audio there.
-right-click on the audio then select UPDATE DRIVER
-click next and next and hope that it'll find it. otherwise u'll need a drivers cd.

what kinds of computer do you have kumpali?
For instance, I have HP and when my sound was gone (same problem as yours), I got the audio drivers that I was looking for from hp websites.
