Do you seriously think if the natives (read: MAJORITY) of Benaadirs were given the chance to cleanse their city of these SNA militiamen who are bombing and shooting at anything that moves, you really think the so-called Alshabaab aka SNA would have a fighting chance?

These anti-statist elements are waging classic asymmetric warfare, ie guerilla war, which heavily depends on sympathetic local population. Do you think it's entirely coincidental that 85% of Xamar is peacefull while all the fighting is taking place in 2 or 3 neighborhoods? This maybe overreaction but word around the streets is that these neighborhoods will be raze to the ground.

Every time these thugs fired a shot the response came either from Ethiopian troops or Somali troops that came from outside. Now, the situation is almost the exact opposite. Most troops in Xamar are local benaadirs who know the city like the back of their hand.

Al-shabaabs days in benaadir are numbered.

Remember Alshabaab started off with Technicals, heavy weaponry and large units who held substantial real estate... today they're reduced to bunch of guys armed with AK47s and RPGs. This is the not the sign of enemy in the ascendancy. In fact, it proves the exact opposite, it proves their weakness.

Shirib, I won't lie and say I'm privy to some inside info. But from the looks of it, Nuur's plan is vintage Carrot and Stick. On one hand, he holds his stick/karbaash and whips anyone who gets out of line 'cause the only thing some of these dead-enders understand is overweening strength and on the other hand he extends an olive branch. The intention is of course to drive a wedge between those (minority) who fight because they oppose Ethiopian troops and those who are against Somalia having accountability, peace, law and order etc. It is a sophisticated, nuanced approach that knocked the dowladiid's off their stride.
