SomaliNetVille Talks End in Failure

SNETVILLE. Rebel forces continued their push towards the capital of SomaliNet after the collapse of peace talks. The Coalition for The Restoration of Democracy (CRD), an umbrella group for various rebel groups, have been in a long pitch fight against the SomaliNet Government and its leader, Premier Screw. The year long conflict was sparked soon after a coup which saw the ouster of the long time and popular Premier Wiseman and other members of the Supreme SomaliNet Politburo, most notably, the only female member, Lady Basra-. The 12 month state of emergency has resulted in various crackdowns on free speech, consolidation of power and the disappearances of notable members of civil society: Ulema, Cultural leaders, Foreign Dignitaries to name a few.

The latest round of talks between the SomaliNet Government and the CRD held in neighboring SomaliLife ended in failure after both sides refused to compromise on their positions. The chief mediator, Boqor Liqaaye, expressed dismay at the lack of progress and stated:

"It is unfortunate that both sides have refused to see the bigger picture: the welfare of the citizenry of SomaliNet. This conflict has resulted in thousands of people being displaced, hundreds of deaths and massive destruction. It is deeply regretful that the CRD and SomaliNet Government have decided to pursue their agenda without regard to the suffering of the civilians "

The CRD soon held a press conference to discuss the failure of the peace talks. Lead CRD negotiator, PoSH, read a short statement from the Chairman of the CRD, Dr. ICAN. The CRD leader stated his disappoint that the talks were unable to produce tangible results to bring peace to SomaliNet:

"... It is a with at most regret that Premier Screw and his illegitimate regime has decided to pursue its arrogant and undemocratic
agenda without any regard for the SomaliNet people. The government has shown clearly that their pursuit of power means more to than bringing peace to SomaliNet."

The SomaliNet Government held a rival press conference to state its position on the failure of the talks. Chief Negotiator and Information Minister, SadeBoi, lambasted the CRD:

"... The CRD have been behaving like arrogant children. The government came to these talks with high hopes to end this conflict. At every issue, the CRD has refused to compromise. Premier Screw gave us broad authority and flexibility to end this conflict in these negotiations. However, the failure of the talks is indicative of the true aim of the CRD, the overthrow of the SomaliNet government. The CRD is not interested in genuine talks but is merely stalling for time."

The failure of the latest talks and renewed fighting bodes more trouble for the war ravaged African nation of two million.

Dear Somalinet Times,

The Somalinet Government headed by Chief Premier, His Excellency Jaalle Screw, has recently read with surprise the article titled "Somalinet Peace Talks End In Failure" written by correspondent Abdiwahab Ahmed Ali.

The Government of Somalinet wishes to announce to the world that no such talks transpired between the legitimate government of Premier Screw and the renegade forces who have dared to cause instability in the home region. In fact, the government of Somalinet has long ago refused to negotiate with the renegade forces. To negotiate with them would be tantamount to recognition of their grievances, something the government of Somalinet does not recognize exist. This is an attack against the people of Somalinet and the government of Premier Screw wishes to quell such a defiance by the might and power of the law. In the latest major campaign, the renegade forces have been crushed and their forces have dispersed into the ountryside. Government forces are now surrounding the last bastion of renegade-controlled territory and the intelligence officers are reporting renegade leader Ican has committed suicide as the coward he was. His mistress and spokeswoman Posh has long given herself up and is now locked in the central prison of General's Square.

It then stands to be inquired, why a respectable newspaper has chosen to position itself as renegade spokesman and propaganda machine. Because of this baseless article, the Government has the power to liquidate the working apparatus of this propaganda machine under emergency decree E7864-4, Section 14. However, due to the mercy of the Premier and his love for democracy and the working structures of a free society, the news paper has been given a second chance. The government than advices you caution and journalistic ethics. This is as much a pardon as could be hoped under the circumstances. You must not be used as a weapon against the People of Somalinet.
