assalamu 'aleykum,
nowadays we find ourselves following the disbelievers in most of our affairs, so i would like to ask you what people think of Democracy.. my view if pretty clear, but i would like to hear other peoples views and how they justify it, as we see on this forum people discussing taking part in the elections etc..

When the prophet (scw) died, the Muslims came together and elected Abubakar (RA) to lead. That is the most purest direct democracy.

i dont mean the concept of voting itself. i mean voting for a man made system.

But isn't democracy the concept itself? I don't think you vote "for" democracy but the vote itself is a form of democracy, correct?


I have listened to many Somali/Muslim religious people on this issue and every time I came off with disappointment that while they were knowledgeable in religion, they were not knowledgeable in world affairs.

The most unIslamic of form of governance is "Monarchy/Kingdom" which is today prevalent in the middle east.

Western Democracy is more closer to the ideals of Islam than the dictatorship and monarchy which exists in most Islamic countries.

The best option is to combine Western Democracy with Islamic rule like Iran has. A government by people but overseen by Religious leaders.

No democracy means to judge according to the laws of men. so in reality man becomes the law giver instead of Allah.and we know from the Qur'an that the only law giver if Allah,and that no one is allowed to legislate other then Allah.

so therfore what about the one that takes part in such a system, is he not rejecting the hukm of Allah ?

the word itself comes from two greek words.

Demos meaning people, and Cracy meaning judgement, authority, or legislation.

i dont think democracy is good thing for muslims...and when i say that i mean the actual concept that its stands today...not the word its self or what it use to be.....simple reason being... democracy its a way of westerners want us to think....to live...to vote...and its a way for them to make us either their enemies (if we dont agree with their policies...or friends...(if we agree with them) its just so sad to see/hear muslims agreeing with the concept of democracy...the west wants everyone to view the world from their perspectives...and what they think its right/wrong...plus if you agree with democracy....means you have to agree with lotts of other things...like modernisation...which is not a good thing...looking at islamic view...muslims can have stabilised...fair...just...and peacefull...way of life...if everything we do didnt envolve...USA....west...INDUSTRIALISE COUNTRIES...or call it whatever you like

I agree. Religious people are blind toward seeing the greater picture.

democracy is nowhere near perfect, but it's the best government anyone is using to this day...

And whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the transgressors.
It is Fard on every muslim ruler to judge those who are under his authority by what Allah has revealed.

corruption works in many folds. and rampant it is in minds free from religious grasp.

Fisibillah, Western Democracy is Xaraam. But so is tyranny, monarchy. A good ruler is one who establishes himself as God's Governor on earth. A king and President does not rule by gods law but by theirs or the "peoples". Democracy puts on a level playing field, the good man and the bad man. Ulema abhorr it. A king can be religious, kind and merciful or he may be cruel, ruthless and power-hungry.
Politicians can be silenced, corrupted or intimidated. A man who fears Allah can not be corrupted, intimidated or silenced. who could he posibly fear more than Allah? Also the best answer comes from the Prophet Himself:
" The best Ruler will be he who does not desire power". Democratically elected men desire power, Kings desire power, so how can they be the best choice of Governmentship?
