This will cause a flood of people driving and walking to Yemen and Saudi Arabia, instead of going through that dangerous Puntland shores, that smuggle and then dump women and kids on the sea to drown. Every week there is a news of Somalis drowning off the shores of yemen and the waters of Puntland, so this may safe lives for the long run.
Ppl will even try to drive/walk to the Hajj, as Sayid Maxamed did, back then.

Kramer,
The reason people go by Sea to Yemen is because as soon as You touch down in Yemen You are automatically given refugee status by the UN and the possiblities of going overseas increases. In addition to that its easier to hide in the Sea but with this Highway there will be manned security checkpoints and if somebody tries to run past it they'll get a bullet in their back. However this will be FANTASTIC for people from Northern Somalia with Western passports to be able to enter Yemen.

Because its not just a bridge, it's also two huge cities at the end of each side of the bridge called the cities of light.

There are many reasons
1- it'll be cheaper to travel to hajj for many africans
2- newer market for middle eastern oil and companies
3- easier transfer of goods from china and india
4- Arabs will get easier access to african resources and raw materials
5- whoever builds this will get his name down on the record books

This is potentially huge improvement if it goes through. I am surprised its only 28KM. Is that how close Yemen and Djibouti are?
