You have to think of it this way: We are living for the afterlife right? then you want someone that is close to Allah(swt) and that will make you close to Allah(swt). Just because they have a good personality doesn't mean that thats will lead them in the right direction. Everyone is created equally, nationality has nothing to do with it if your a muslim. I believe all muslims are brothers and sisters no matter the nationality or the color!
