Somalis are terrible at history, Shirib is case in point.
The Holy Roman Empire was a German kingdom in the Medieval period, very lousy and weak kingdom in reality, they only played a minor part in the crusades and most of their wars were against weaker Baltic states to their east. They were not holy, Roman, or an empire - as the old saying goes.
What you're referring to is the EASTERN Roman Empire, Byzantium (Greece).
BTW, God Bless Zenawi, the father of Modern Ethiopia.

I still have no respect for you or the man you have on your avatar.
How can any Somali be against the joint nationhood of Ethiopia and Somalia? If we have Ethiopia to our aid, we will recapture Djibouti, NFD, and build a Kingdom that extends to modern Iraq. The restoration of the Abyssinian empire depends on the Somali willingness to bring down the Eritrean rebels.
If only you know what was at stake.

It was the Empire of Axum that offered refuge to Muhammed and his followers after they were driven into exile. Ethiopia is a successor state (modern Ethiopia) to the successor state (Derg-led Ethiopia) to the usurper (Solomonic Abyssinia) of the inheritors (Zagwe Dynasty) of the Empire of Axum, and is in no way, shape or form the same entity.
Modern Somalia actually has equal claim of being a successor of Axum. Mogadishu was once a dependancy of Adal, during the time when Adal was one of the sub-kingdoms of Axum around 1400 years ago, Adal in this time being today's Awdal plus today's Afar state and Djibouti.
Sudan is a successor of Axum as well. Alodia was one of the subkingdoms of Axum as well, which converted to Islam and, under the Funj dynasty, expanded rapidly to encompass most of the upper Nile Valley, before being conquered by the Egyptians under Mohammed Ali Pasha, being placed under Anglo-Egyptian joint rule, and then getting their independence in the 20th century.
Axum is a lost and dead empire, like the Roman Empire or the Mongol Empire or the Empire of Charlemagne or Alexander the Great. It had great influence at the time, and a vast array of nations can trace their beginnings to it, but it doesn't make it any less dead.
The fact that today Habash people have taken ownership of the legacy of Axum is somewhat disingenuous. Axum was more like what Austria-Hungary used to be, a multi-ethnic, multi-religious empire with a King on the throne but a gigantic multi-ethnic aristocracy that had the real power.
