Taxpayers are forced to bear the strategic mistakes of major corporations. Why would I bail out a Bankrupt blood sukkers facing a takeover bid?

Gen,

Interest rates are lowered to reduce the cost of banks to borrow money from the Federal Reserve. By cutting rates, the FEd hopes to increase liquidity and encourage the Banks to borrow money to lend & to lend money to each other. A lowered interest rate reduces the interest rate on loans and the goal it to get businesses to start borrowing more and spend on equipment, services which means more consumption & trade = economic growth, lower unemployment.

Unfortunately, the Fed has done this too many times and the market has gotten used to it. They want more rate cuts and the banks are not doing what interest rate cuts are supposed to make them do. Interest rate cuts can be done so many times before you take it too low which results in a depreciation of the US $$ and a possible run on the US $ by foreigners who see their value going down

In an interesting twist, the Fed has started lending $$ to investment banks, a first ever. It is a bad idea since these Investment banks are not well regulated as the Banks for whom the Fed has strong regulations and vast information on
