Pre-requisites e.g. Bio, Chem, Calc, Stat?

I took my GMAT many years ago.

Saxiib, my 2 cents are to do as many tests as possible and to do them in a real test environment (at a computer)

The more comfortable u get with the test and environment the better. Don't dwell on the hard questions and remember to focus on the first few questions which determines the 'testing difficulty level'

I almost sat for the GMAT, when I wanted to apply for an MBA program a few years ago, but decided against it. I peeked at the LSAT as well, too many logic questions, not enough calculating/practical questions. MCAT I sat for it the first time in my Junior year of college and then again a few weeks ago; did much better the 2nd time.

The past few months, I've done nothing, but look at old MCAT tests, go to med student forums, cram medical terminologies, etc. Now, I just wanna take the damn thing and be over with it. I don't remember being this anxious about anything in a very long time.

I hate these standardized tests esp. since they started making them CAT exams instead of the pencil and paper tests.

800 dheh! Yo did you do the pre-med courses in college? If you did yeah I would say go ahead with the Kaplan if you can remember, but if you haven't or don't feel like your grasp on it is too well I would advice you to do a short post-Bacc and with your lab experience you should have no problem. Even this year, the pre-med requirements for some of my top schools changed, some of them added an extra Biochem requirement as well as Genom, just be aware of that because if you haven't taken those in under-grad then you really need do a post-bacc.

Yeah I am taking the pre-reqs, but since I am majoring in microbiology (double major really with communication) the most of the pre-reqs for med are the pre-reqs for the major LOLz, yeah I am well through. In fact, did you ever watch the program "CNN heroes"? Well there is a kenyan guy in there who is a public health student who got an award for building a clinic there, I just got hooked with one of his biggest financers and we are working out plans so I can make use of my visit to Afirca this summer by volunteering in another clinic called the Matoso clinic he funds.

LOL@"800 dheh" you nailed it, walee! Yes, I was a pre-med, dual major in Undergrad and after college I've worked in the health field since then. That's what gave me the confidence to take a shot at the MCAT. I'll drop you a PM and tell you the details.

P.S. Microbiology was my worst subject in college, lol....I almost lost my mind taking that course, but I did have classmates who lived for that stuff; you sound like one of them!

Don't you work for the CDC?? Trust me brah, with your undergrad experience, and what you have done ever since (hope you voltuneered as well!) with good mcat COMBINED with the fact you are a URM, you can get into some of the biggest names out there!

Do engineering! For a long time I was really torn between Civil Engineering and pre-Med till I realized WHY I wanted to be a doctor!

Since i have been young i always had a dream of designing a comercial airliner and am good in math i mean really Good.LOL so am sticking to my major. But i always stayed away from Bio and Chemistry.

Yep, I am still with the CDC! And you're right about the volunteering and the URM advantages. This shyt isn't what its hyped up to be, if you follow the right steps from early on, getting in to any Med school isn't that difficult. I must say though, WA State beats GA when it comes to educational facilities. The whole South is weak when it comes to higher education institutions; makes one wish they lived in the North East/Midwest/Pacific.

Washington beats whole lotta people man, #1 in one in primary care and #6 in research, either way one of only two schools (the other is a uc school) that is top ten for both medical school sections.

at the school of public health they just opened up a department of global health joined with the school of medicine and we are lured a Harvard med school dean....in couple years Seattle as a whole is going to overtake Geneva as the Health capital of the world..!

Yeah well always go after what you like, engineering is awesome man but I feel sorry for my friend who are in there, even on the weekends i gotta take food to them cuz they are stressed out there in the eng library doing labs
