Tales of Somali Heroes from the Heroic Age

Post by James Dahl »

In ancient Greece, poets used to recite the heroic stories of their people, and these epic poems would sometimes take hours to recite. Much later on, when writing became an art form rather than merely an accounting tool, people like Homer compiled these stories into epic tales such as the Iliad and the Odyssey.

The Irish and Welsh had a similar tradition of heroic poetry, which were also compiled with the advent of Welsh and Irish literature.

People today refer to these poems as stories from the Heroic age.

While I know Greek and Celtic heroic poetry, why has the great Somali heroic poetry tradition gone unchronicled? Where are the Somali Homers?
