i've known Somali guys that eat bacon, pepperoni, ham and waxay ka dhargaan bbq pork ribs....when i ask them if they're gaal, they say "i drink and i don't pray...so eating pork is the least thing i should be worried about"...Wallahi there's even this one guy in the city who LEGALLY changed his name from Mohamed Islam to Sergio Valentino

the western Somali generation is fukked...our kids and their kids are gonna be worse than these bila diin madows on MTV cuz Somalis are naturally stubborn and rebellious...lakiin at least back home, we had a heavyhanded society and leaders that kept us in check

In retrospect, one of the saddest days of my life, was the day I picked up my former landlord from Jilib from an address in Los Angeles and took him for a visit with my wife and I and a car tour around the world that I knew. He was in the States for study and a tour of agricultural establishments and experimental farms. I took him to a restaurant above San Bernardino where you could look out over the lights in the valley. We were hungry and ordered. He explained uncomfortably that he could not eat this food. It had never been an issue for me in his household or in Somalia; we had never discussed religion, and at that point I still did not understand the nuances. I was highly embarassed, and remain so to this day.

That was the late summer of 1969 and I never heard from him again.
