History and Photos: The Prophet's Mosque in Medina
It was originally open-air! Read the progression of it's construction.
The first three Caliphs are buried side by side inside the Prophets home in Medina, which is now part of the mosque complex. You can locate it in the photos at the first link as it is under the green dome.

These are the recommendations for pilgrims visiting during Umrah or Haaj:

Note the form of the "greeting" for the first three Caliphs. Relative specifically to the tombs of the Sheiks in Baraawe, is it normal to pray facing the center of a mosque, or towards Mecca?

The green fence at the tomb of Muhammad is guarded by Wahhabi volunteers, who prevent pilgrims from touching the fence, which the Wahhabis regard as idolatry. The structure called Muhammad's pulpit is also guarded by a Wahhabi volunteer who attempts to keep pilgrims from touching it. The current marble pulpit was constructed by the Ottomans; the original was much smaller and made of palm tree wood.

Wasn't this the whole point of your thread? A Muslim by nature greets any Muslim grave he encounters according to the Prophet (saw), so why are the Sheikhs in Baraawe any different?Grant wrote:Note the form of the "greeting" for the first three Caliphs. Muslims always face the Ka'bah, regardless of where they are. Furthermore, the three Khalifs & the Prophet (saw) were never buried in the Masjid, they were buried next to the Masjid. However, due to expansion of the Masjid over the years, the graves joined the Masjid compound, but their entrance is separate and no one prays in that section.
Why would you put up as a link a disrespectful website that uses derogative words like "Wahaabi volunteers"?

Koronto,
I am under the impression that both of those sites are at least semi-official. Is any of the Information incorrect? What is disrespectful about the phrase "Wahaabbi Volunteers". Wahabbis are the official sect of Saudi Arabia. The lineage of Abdul Wahaab have a hereditary relationship with the House of Saud and receive state salaries and support. You didn't know?
Of course Muslims pray towards the Ka'bah. That was my point. They do not pray towards the middle of the mosque, any more than they pray towards the Prophet's tomb in Medina.
The Prophet's tomb was placed inside the mosque by the Umayyad Caliph Al-Walid in 707. It has not been removed, nor has the mosque been removed from it. Same with Karbala, Najaaf and elsewhere.
So why do Aweys Al-Baraawe and the other Sheiks of Baraawe deserve so much less respect? You don't think the Barwaniis know the difference between a tomb and a qibla?

Grant you should know by now that muslims are sensitive to any hints of idolatary.
most of these seyaaro, tomb visits are harmless, but it has been taken to extremes.
and it is human nature to go down that road.
When it reaches the point where tomb visitors actually pray to the saint asking for intercessetion
between them and god, that is when the line has been stepped over into shirk.
Sadly this is still common in many parts of the muslim word especially india and indonesia,
but the trend is on the decrease due to education.

You of all people should know by now that the word "Wahaabi" has a negative/derogatory implication?Grant wrote:Koronto,

The Prophets grave (saw) is where it was placed close to 1400 years ago, nobody has ever moved it, no one dares to move it, it was never placed inside of a Masjid, because Masjids & graves do not belong together. Karbala & Najaaf are Shi'a regions, they follow their own version of Islam, which have nothing to do with the teachings of the Prophet (saw) nor the Qur'an, pointing them out in this discussion is pointless.
Nobody said Sheikh Aweys or anyone else deserves disrespect, Islam teaches graves to be respected, if a Muslim comes across a grave to send greetings upon the dead, to show mercy & kindness to the dead. However, Islam does not say the graves of certain Sheikhs should be worshipped or special celebrations be held in their honor, nor does Islam say graves of certain Sheikhs should be in the middle of Masjids or that people should pray towards them.

Re: History and Photos: The Prophet's Mosque in Medina
Koronto we all know that wahabi is an innaccurate and deregotary name for muslims these days.
but there exists an official religous madhab/sect or whatever in Saudi arabia
and this means that only those that follow the teachings of Abdul wahab and share his views
will be imaams in the mosques, teach in the schools.
if you do not follow the official guidlines, you are nothing in saudia..
and the Saudis have used thier prestige(having the xaramain) and money to
spread thier official religioys views to the rest of the world.
anyone that has become a naughty boy to the west is today deemed wahabi,(even if they themselves are extremely anti-wahabi),
they have made wahabi to be an irrelevant term.
but the root of it still exists.

I thought the house of Saudi had hereditary relationship with the Turks. or was it the Royal FamilyGrant wrote:Koronto,
